Scottish Highlands
Highland Spectacular
This tour shows you everything that is Scottish: The working Sheepdogs – A Heather Garden – Spectacular Mountain Scenery. This tour is an excellent opportunity to capture some unforgettable memories so have your Camera ready.
We travel north over the Forth Road Bridge to the Cairngorm Mountains, with Scotland's second highest mountain Ben Macdhui. We continue to the Highland town of Pitlochry, with its many shops and restaurants and travel through spectacular scenery. After a short break we continue to Aviemore.
Aviemore is the base for many outdoor activities and a ski resort during the winter. You have the option of taking the Funicular Railway half way up the mountain to the Cairngorm Centre at approximately 460 metres above sea level, while keeping a look out for the ghost of “The Old Grey Man” who is said to haunt Ben Macdhui.
On arrival at the Ptarmigan Terminal visit the very comprehensive exhibition with amenities. However, the highlight of this excursion is the real feel you get for the mountains whilst enjoying the constantly changing and stunning panoramic views from the terrace.
We rejoin the coach and continue to the Speyside Heather Centre for a late lunch. This is an award winning four star visitor centre where the story of another Scottish icon, Heather, can be discovered before trying Clootie Dumpling in the Clootie Dumpling Restaurant.
Our last visit of the day is to the Leault Sheepdog Farm to watch a very Scottish tradition of sheepdogs herding sheep or even ducks! This is an experience not to be missed giving people of all ages the chance to enjoy a Highland shepherd and his dogs at work. After a pleasant day in the Scottish Highlands we return to Edinburgh.
